The Perfect Date

This movie reminds me of what I call "Early life crisis ". Everyone goes through a stage in life where they try to find out who they really are.  When that time comes one does not need to feel bad or alone because everyone passes through that phase. To anyone passing through that I just want to let you know that you are not alone we are all trying to figure out who we are.
This movie is about a teenage boy named Brooks Rattigan (Noah Centineo)  a high school senior who does not really know who he is in life.  All he dreams about is going to Yale but he does not know what he will do after that.  Brooks lives with his father Charlie Rattigan (Matt Walsh)  who was a struggling writer.  His mother is not in their life because she is married to someone else and she has another family.
Charlie wants Brooks to go to University of Connecticut because it is cheaper and he does not have enough funds for Yale. Brooks tells his father not to worry about the fees that he will handle it. In his bid to acquire his fees Brooks starts a business as a non sexual male escort to ladies who in return pay him.  His best friend Murph (Odiseas Georgiadis)  creates an app "The Stand-in" which will enable girls book him and let him know how they want him to appear.
Brooks is an expert at becoming whatever people want him to be succeeds at his business.  While playing the role of a boyfriend to Celia (Laura Marano) his first customer he meets Shelby (Camila Mendes) whom he falls in love with. Celia was trying to get the attention of another guy whom she has a crush on. After wasted efforts of both of them to form a relationship with other people they realize that they are in love with each other. Brooks rethinks everything and realizes that all this while he has been struggling with finding out who he is.

WHAT TO LEARN FROM THE PERFECT DATE
1) Friendship: In this movie Brooks and Murph had a beautiful friendship. Brooks put the relationship in jeopardy when his male escort business was booming.  He later realizes his mistake and Murph forgave him.

2) Everyone struggles to figure out who they are in life even without knowing it sometimes.  Brooks was obsessed with going to Yale without knowing what he will do next.  He found it easier to be someone else because he does not know who he really is. His father brought it to his notice that he is trying to figure out who he is in life.  He also told him that everyone passes through that phase.

Drunk Parents

Have you ever loved someone so much that you'll do anything for them?  Today's story is a story of love.  A love between a couple and their child and a love between husband and wife.
Meet the Teagartens from the movie Drunk Parents
Frank Teagarten (Alec Baldwin)  and Nancy Teagarten (Salma Hayek) are proud parents who just dropped their daughter on her first day of college.  They successfully hid their financial problem from which they have been passing through after they made a bad business decision.  They used their last money to pay her school fees and they pretended that nothing was going on.  They figured out that when she goes to college they will tackle it and overcome it.
When the situation was not getting better Mr and Mrs Teagarten try to use alcohol to hide their frustration and they make a big mistake under the influence of alcohol. While trying to cover up that one mistake and keep their so called "friends" from finding out that they were undergoing  financial struggles they make more mistakes.
Their daughter ends up finding out when she wanted to surprised her mum by visiting and planning a surprise birthday party.  She was sad that her parents did not trust her enough to inform her and that she was not there to help them. She told them that nothing can make her love them any less.  The Teagarten's come out of the financial mess and Mrs Teagarten confesses that she was thankful for her new friends and family.

WHAT YOU CAN LEARN FROM DRUNK PARENTS
1) Love : The love a parent have for their children /child is pure and unquestionable. Mr and Mrs Teagarten did not disclose their financial problem to their daughter because they love her and they did not want to hurt her.

2) Friendship : True friendship is rare.  When the Teagarten's were rich they had a group of rich friends who deserted them when they lost all their money.  They later made new friends who were better than the ones they had before.  If we have a true friend that friend will stand by us no matter what we may be passing through.

3) Relationship : We should learn to value good relationship with others.  Good relationship between family members and between friends is important. If the Teagartens did not have a good relationship with each other they would not have been able to overcome the financial problem.  Mrs Teagarten establishes this when she says that she is thankful for their new friends and for her family.
Drunk parents may be seen as an offensive comedy to some people but if you look more closely you will see the lessons present in the movie. It was directed by Fred Wolf and released on April  19th 2019. It is rated R for language through out and crude sexual references. It runs for 97 minutes.

Five Feet Apart

Five feet apart is about two teens,  Stella Grant (Haley Lue Richardson)  and Will Newman (Cole Sprouse). They both suffer from an illness called Cystic fibrosis or CF for short.  It is also one of the fast growing YA book to screen adaptations.
Stella and Will meet in an hospital when they went for a new form of treatment along with Poe (Moises Arias)  who also suffers from Cystic fibrosis and was Stella's hospital best friend. Patients suffering from CF have to stay at least six feet apart in order not to contact infection from themselves so they three of them stick to that rule.

When Stella and Will first met,  Stella was full of life,  happy and she was hoping to get a new lungs and undergo a transplant. Will on the other hand tested positive for a dangerous bacteria named "B cepacia" and he was fed up with the treatment and was not taking his drugs.  Stella being controlling and kind of bossy befriends him so that she will help him stay committed to his treatment and take his drugs. The friendship escalates and develops into something romantic.  The two of them try despite all odds to be together but  can they survive??
Five feet apart has a romantic storyline similar to that of The Fault in Our Stars and if you loved The Fault in our Stars you will love this one.  Although the romance is limited because both characters can not be within less than six feet apart and the movie is set in a hospital.  The title was gotten because Stella and Will decide to risk it and come one more feet closer.
The movie is welcomed in some part of CF community because it helps create awareness of the illness and is not welcomed in some part of CF community because they are worried that it leads the audience/viewers to romanticize the illness.  Never the less the movie emphasizes the importance of treasuring the people close to you and spending as much time as you can with them because life is too short.  The themes present in this movie are those of empathy and perseverance. Offensive words are used few times and there are few references to sex because Stella and Will who can not even kiss wished they could have sex but can not because of their illness.
The movie was released on March 15th 2019 and was directed by Justin Baldoniit runs for 116minutes and is rated PG13 for thematic elements, language and suggestive materials.<script async src="//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js"></script>

Ready Player One

Ready Player One is Steven Spielberg's adaptation of Ernest Cline's near-future Sci-fi adventure novel.  It is set in 2045 where people see reality as boring and they escape to a virtual universe through a game called "The Oasis". In the oasis,  people can be anywhere, be anyone and do whatever they like . The only limitation is one's imagination.
The main character Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan)  whose avatar's name is Perzival lives in Columbus, Ohio and like other gamer he spends his spare time logged in the game. There is a hunt going on for an Easter egg which the creator of the game James Halliday (Mark Rylance) who is dead hid somewhere in the game . To get the egg, the egg hunters or "Gunters" for short are to find three keys by winning three challenges.

The winner at the end of the third challenge will get Halliday's fortune and control of the oasis parent company.  Since Halliday was obsessed with the 1980's (the time he grew up in),  Wade and other gunters began to study life in the 80's. Wade's avater, Perzival gets a key first and he became Popular and four other gunters who became his friends get the key too. Soon the IOI a global corporation determined to win the hunt went after them. The IOI hired Proffessional gamers known as Sixers to hunt on their behalf.  Wade and his friends later known as the "High Five" work together both in real life and in the oasis to keep the egg out of the reach of IOI.
In Ready Player One there are both scenes of virtual and real life violence.  The characters flirt,  kiss and touch each other suggestively.  There is a little cursing in this movie .  The target audience are gamers and fans of the book.  The themes of teamwork, perseverance and valuing real life connections are clearly seen. You don't have to read the book to understand it in fact the movie is easier to understand than the book.
Ready player one was released on March 29th 2018 and it runs for 140 minutes. It is rated PG 13 for sequence of sci-fi action violence, bloody images,  some suggestive material nudity and language.

The Last Boy

Released in 2019, The last boy is a science-fiction thriller set in an era where the world was coming to an end due to a radioactive wind.  The movie begins with Sira (Flynn Allen)  a young boy who looks after his sick mother.  Before she died she tells him about a safe place (a place that grants wishes)  she tells him the location and also that he should go there when she dies.
Sira's mother dies in her sleep during the night and Sira begins his journey to the place that grants wishes.  He stays close to rivers and bodies of water to protect him from the ghostly wind that leaves anyone in its path as a statue of ash. Bumblebee movie review

Bumblebee is a prequel to the Transformers universe set in 1987. It begins during a civil war on Cybertron the home planet of transformers. Autobot resistance leader Optimus prime (Voiced by Peter Cullen)  after being almost defeated sends his young lieutenant, B-127 (Voiced by Dylan O'Brien)  to Earth in order to establish a base for them to reinforce and fight back to claim their planet back from the Decepticons.
B-127 crash lands on a military training ground and he was chased by the officers led by an army general (Played by John Cena) who saw him as a threat to Earth. He was followed by two Decepticons who fought him and destroyed his voice box.

Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), one of the main characters in this movie is an 18 year old girl who is trying to cope with the death of her father finds B-127 in a junkyard in the form of an old yellow Volkswagen beetle which she fixed and took home. Later in her garage,  the beetle transforms into a robot that she names Bumblebee.
Charlie becomes friends with Bumblebee and hides him from her family but he was discovered by her neighbor Memo (Jorge Landeborg Jr) who has been trying to ask her out but she hardly notices him.  After
a while, the twoDecepticons named Shatter (Angela Basset)  and Dropkick (Justin Theroux) who chased him before finds out that he is still alive and  they came back  to Earth. They trick the U. S government and the military uniform into believing that Bumblebee is a fugitive and the government agents help them track him by giving the aliens access to their satelite.

This adventure /action movie features less violence, language and sex than the previous transformers movies. It still contains huge fight scenes. There is explosive destruction and weapons are used.  There is few use of "damn" and "shit". Charlie  plays a courageous role as the lead character.  The themes in this movie are those of courage, friendship and teamwork. Although there was no need for this prequel it exceeds the expectations of the viewers and it is considered to have the best storyline out of the other transformer movies.
It is directed by Travis Knight and was released on 21st December 2018. It is rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi action violence and it runs for 113 minutes.

The Kissing Booth

The kissing booth is adapted from a popular E book with the same name written by Beth Reekles.  It tells the story of two best friends Elle (Joey King)  and Lee (Joel Courtney).  Their mothers were best friends until Elle lost her mother.  Elle and Lee were brought up together like twins especially because they were born on the same day.
Elle and Lee love to hang out together and they love to dance.  They created a list of rules to keep their friendship and make it last long. That rule includes no dating of each others family members  but Elle has a huge crush on Lee's older brother Noah( Jacob Elordi).  In order to keep her friendship with Lee,  she ignores her feelings for Noah.  Their school's spring carnival comes and Elle and Lee decides to run a kissing booth and guess who Elle's first customer is.  Of course it's Noah.  They kiss and their feelings for each other becomes stronger and more obvious to them.
Elle knows that Noah is off limits if she wants to keep her friendship with Lee but she can't pass off the opportunity of dating her lifelong crush. Elle and Noah begin to date in secret for a while and Lee suspects that Elle is hiding something from him.  The secret love affair was brought to an end when Lee caught Elle and Noah kissing.  Elle is left to decide what is more important to her love or friendship .
The kissing booth is a teen romantic comedy that lives up to the expectations set by the title.  There is A LOT of kissing and scenes with Elle and Noah making out briefly. Elle appears in her underwear a couple of times including a scene where she struts around in a locker room filled with guys with nothing but her underwear.  There are scenes of teenagers partying and drinking.  There is implied sex when Elle and Noah start dating  they wake up outside close to the Hollywood sign covered with blankets and Elle is seen buying condom once.
There are violent scenes in this movie. Noah gets into multiple fist fights. He gets aggressive and controlling with Elle. He scares other guys from asking her out. He shouts at her and one time he even slams his fist on his car out of frustration. Noah acknowledges his anger issues as he admits that he has been to therapy. There is use of foul language.  High school stereotype is present in this movie.
The forbidden romance brings a lot of teen appeal. Teen romance fans will enjoy this movie like I did.  The messages in this movie are clearly seen and they include but not limited to relationships between siblings, friendship, standing up for yourself,  forgiveness e. t.c It was directed by Vince Marcello and was released on 11th May 2018. It is not rated but I will rate it PG and it runs for 104 minutes.

Glass movie review

Glass brings together  characters from M. Night Shyamalan's two previous movies "Split" and "Unbreakable ". Unbreakable is about David Dunn (Bruce Willis)  who was the only survivor of a horrible  train crash. He later learned that he is more than the normal human being.  Split is about Kevin Wendell Crumb a mentally ill patient diagnosed with DID.
Glass begins with David Dunn now popular in philadelphia as a protector/superhero known as "The Overseer" . He works together with his son Joe Dunn (Spencer Treat Clark)  to fight crime in their community.  He tracks down Kevin after he kidnapped four young ladies and locked them up in an abandoned factory.  David frees the girls which made Kevin agitated and the two of them began to fight and they end up being carried away to Raven Hill Memorial Psychiatric Hospital where Elijah Price (Samuel L Jackson)  has been for almost two decades. They meet with Dr Ellie Staple (Sarah Paulson) and she tries to convince them that they are not superhumans in any way and their actions could be explained.
Casey (Anya Taylor)  from split is introduced as a from of therapy for Kevin because she is the only one that his identity as the Beast let go without harm. The three men are at war with each other but they are kept in check by strobe lights, high pressured hoses and heavy medication. They are forced to put up with each other or shut up concerning the fight against good and evil.
In Glass M. Night Shyamalan brings together his vision of Freudian brain in the uncontrolled ideantity of Kevin Crumb who suffers from an identity disorder known as DID, the regulating force of super ego in David Dunn and a moderator between the hero and villain in the ego that is Elijah Price a. K. a Mr Glass.
Glass was directed and written  by M.  Night Shyamalan and was released on January 18, 2019. It is rated PG 13 for violence including some  bloody images , thematic element and language.  It runs for 110 minutes.
