Serenity a movie directed by the Oscar nominee Steven Knight is a thriller about Baker Dill (Matthew McConaughey) who finds himself on a remote island named Plymouth Island. On the island, he is the captain of a fishing boat with his first mate Duke (Shimon Hounsou).
Apart from fishing, Baker also rents fishing trips to tourists. He spends his day planning on catching a large tuna fish called justice. Suddenly Karen (Anne Hathaway) his ex wife appears pleading with him to kill her abusive husband Frank (Jason Clarke) when he comes for a fishing trip. Karen tells Baker that when Frank comes to book him, he should accept to take him and when they are on the sea he should get Frank drunk and throw him overboard for the sharks to eat.
Baker is left to decide on whether he will kill Frank or not. His world is thrust into a new reality and he realizes that everything is not what it seems.
Serenity goes more into science fiction when its twist was unraveled at the end. The ending would have been better if it was a thriller all through or science fiction all through. The scenery is beautiful with good landscape and oceans. In this movie, domestic abuse is present, there are sexual scenes, drinking, smoking and vulgar languages. The movie runs for 106minutes and it was released to theaters January 25th 2019.
