Green Book

Green Book the 2019 Oscar winner of best original screenplay is a movie inspired by a true life story about racism in the 1960's. Tony Lip(Viggo Mortensen)  is an Italian American bouncer from the Bronks in New York.  The club where he works is closed for renovations so he is in search of a temporary job. Dr Don Shirley (Ali Mahershala)  a black pianist is in search of a driver for his concert tour in the Midwest and deep southern region of America. Tony applied for the job as Dr Shirley's driver and he was hired. Tony had to leave his big family for 8 weeks which was hard for him but he consoled himself by writing to his wife regularly.
During their journey, Tony and Dr Shirley had to consult a book titled "The Green Book" which served as a guide for black people during that time of racism to locate hotels and accomodation where they were welcomed. Tony and Dr Shirley got to know each other on their long trip and formed a strong bond of friendship.
They dealt with racism, Jim crow laws and hate crimes through out their trip which made their friendship stronger. The two men remained friends after the trip and stayed friends till they died in 2013.

Serenity movie review

Serenity  a movie directed by the Oscar nominee Steven Knight is a thriller about Baker Dill (Matthew McConaughey)  who finds himself on a remote island named Plymouth Island. On the island, he is the captain of a fishing boat with his first mate Duke (Shimon Hounsou).
Apart from fishing, Baker also rents fishing trips to tourists. He spends his day planning on catching a large tuna fish called justice. Suddenly Karen (Anne Hathaway)  his ex wife appears pleading with him to kill her abusive  husband Frank (Jason Clarke)  when he comes for a fishing trip.  Karen tells Baker that when Frank comes to book him,  he should accept to take him and when they are on the sea he should get Frank drunk and throw him overboard for the sharks to eat.
Baker is left to decide on whether he will kill Frank or not.  His world is thrust into a new reality and he realizes that everything is not what it seems.
Serenity goes more into science fiction when its twist was unraveled at the end.  The ending would have been better if it was a thriller all through or science fiction all through. The scenery is beautiful with good landscape and oceans. In this movie, domestic abuse is present, there are sexual scenes, drinking,  smoking and vulgar languages. The movie runs for 106minutes and it was released to theaters January 25th 2019.

Night school

Night school is a comedy about Teddy (Kevin Hart)  who is a barbeque sales man.  His life changed when he lost his job as a result of a fire incident which he caused.  Since he lost his job he was scared he will loose his fiancee Lisa (Megalyn Echikunwoke)  too.  So instead of telling her the truth that he could not get a job unless he gets his General Equivalency diploma (G. E. D).  He lies to her that he got a new job while he is actually enrolled in a night school.  Teddy faces lots of struggle with taking the test and Lisa eventually finds out the truth and calls of the engagement.

The message in this movie is a relatable one.  it talks of Teddy who was called dumb in the past because he had learning difficulties (dyslexia,  dyscalculia and auditory processing disorder). Night school is able to convey the issue of learning disorders in a comic but yet educative way. It also talks about not giving up.  Teddy did not give up on getting his G. E. D although he faced a lot of struggles. Another message in this movie is honesty.  The importance of honesty was shown between Teddy and Lisa. Everything was better when he was honest.
The story of this movie is not complete without talking of the night school teacher Carrie (Tiffany Haddish)  who is a tough but inspiritional and dedicated teacher who is concerned with the success of her students and she ensures that no one is left behind.  She uses her not so professional methods to make sure Teddy overcome his difficulties and he eventually gets his G. E. D
The movie is written by Kevin Hart and directed by Malcolm. D.  Lee.  It was released in theatres September 28 2018 and released on D. V. D January 1,2019. The movie is rated p.g 13 due to crude and sexual content, drug references and violence.  It runs for 111 minutes.
