Love Guaranteed

 

When Mike Evans tries online dating on the app LOVE GUARANTEED,  he thought he would find love but after being on almost a 1000 dates he still hasn't found love. So Mike decides to sue Love Guaranteed and he hires Susan Whitaker who works in  cheap cases or even for clients who can't  afford to pay. Susan loves her job but her bill's are pilling  up so when Mike came offering to pay her well for the case she took the case eventhough she thought that Mike was a "loophole shark" looking for ways to make quick money. 

    After  meeting with few of his dates she came to the conclusion that Mike was not a loophole shark and  he was a perfect gentleman to all his dates. Mike who is a Physical Therapist actually wants to donate the money he makes from the case to help children who can't pay for physical therapy.  This made Susan more sympathetic towards Mike and she was determined to win the case but they end up winning something bigger than they ever imagined.

Switched

Switched is a great movie that reminds me of Freaky Friday. Cassandra Evans (Miya Horcher) a high schooler was a victim of bullies. She hated her life and she longed to be someone else specifically Katie Sharp (Madeline Byrne) the most popular girl in their school who was  a bully. One night after Cassandra was bullied in school by Katie she prayed to God that Katie should experience how it feels to be her. Cassandra got her wish as the two girls swith bodies and wake up as each other the next day. Now they have to work together to find a solution. 

           Switched  speaks against bullying. It teaches the viewers that bullying is not the right thing to do.  It uses Biblical views and principles  to let viewers know that God wants us to show love to ourselves and to others . This movie also talks about jealousy and covetousness. Sometimes we may envy others and even wish to be them. This movie is a wake up call for us to be contented with our lives no matter how boring we feel it is. We should know that we are all unique and special in our own ways. We should not belittle ourselves.  

              Furthermore, we should try not to judge others because we don't know what they are going through.  Like the popular saying goes "walk a mile in my shoes then you can tell me what to do"   we should be kind to those around us because they might be going through a tough time and our kind action might just help to put a smile on their face . We should always be kind even to those who hurt us.  We should endeavour to be good friends, brothers ,sisters, daughters,  sons and parents.  

           Lastly, we should develop a high-self esteem. Due to bullying, Cassandra had low self esteem and she could not stand up for herself and face her bullies.  We should value ourselves because if  we do so, others will sense it and value you also  Cassandra was a great singer and guitar player but because she felt worthless and had low self esteem she lacked courage so she never played in public. But when she discovered her value and worth she was able to sing in front of people and ace her audition into the prestigious Julliard. 

       Overall I loved this movie and I rate it a 10/10. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Mulan 2020

 

This is a live-action version of Disney's 1988 MULAN.  It is not totally  identical to the animation as some parts have been omitted while few new parts have been included but the storyline is the same. If you loved the cartoon version you will love this live -action remake.

              The story is about Hua Mulan (Yifei Liu)  who from a very young age has shown a strong chi/warrior spirit that are usually found in amales. This caused her to behave and act like a boy. Her parents in order to prevent Mulan  from bringing shame and dishonour to their family advices her to hide her chi and to stop acting like a boy. 

 

    Now an adult, Mulan fails in her match making session which was supposed to give her a honourable life ahead and she feels that she has brought shame to her family. On their way back home, the Imperial Army Scouts ride to their village and announces that the king has given an order that each family must present a Male representative to be trained for the battle against the Rouran Huns who are being led by Böri Khan (Jason Scott Lee) and a warrior witch named Xiannninang (Gong Li).  Mulan's father Zhou (Tzi Ma) having no sons and happens to be a wounded war hero volunteers to go for his family.

       Mulan in order to save her father and preserve her family's honour ran away  from home at night with her father's armour and her family sword. She pretends to be a man  and joins the regiment train to save the kingdom from invaders . It was not easy hiding her true identity  especially because one major virtues of a imperial warrior is honesty.  But eventually she saved the Emperor and brought honour to her family. 

     Some lessons in this movie are courage , perseverance , teamwork and devotion to family.

The War With Grandpa

This movie shows the importance of family and it is rated PG.  In this family comedy, a young 6th grader Peter (oakes Fegley)  fights to regain his beloved room back from his grandfather. Peter's mom (Uma Thurman) asked her father  Grandpa Ed (Robert De Niro) to move in with them so she can keep a closer eye on him. There was no extra room for him to stay in so Peter was forced to move up unto the attic. 

             Peter won't let his room go without a fight so he declares war with his grandfather and he comes up with multiple pranks to drive Grandpa Ed out. Grandpa Ed fights back and the two engage in a prank war. Will they keep on fighting or will they end up living in peace?  Watch the full movie to find out

Magic Camp

 

Magic Camp is a tween-friendly movie that encourages the audience to discover and value their unique talents. It teaches the audience that we are all unique in our own unique ways and lastly it shows the importance of teamwork.

          The story begins when washed up magician Andy (Adam Devine) who now struggles as a taxi driver was asked why his mentor and founder of The Institute Of Magic , Preston (Jeffrey Tambor) to be a counselor at the magic camp for the summer . Andy takes the job because he sees it as an opportunity to get back at his former stage partner celebrity magician Darkwood (Gillian Jacobs). Who was also going to be at the camp counselling another bunk. 

        Andy hopes that his cabin winn beat Darkwood's cabin at the Top Hat Magic competition that comes up at the end of the summer camp. Unfortunately,  Andy's cabin is full of newbies who have little or no experience with magic. It is his responsibility to help them find their magic and develop their confidence. Does he face this responsibility or does he run away from it?

Project Power

 Project Power is an action movie with lots of great messages. Like other action movies we see team work and  bravery a lot in it . The movie is about how a drug was created to give humans super powers and was distributed to New Orleans. Robin (Dominique Fishback)  a female high school student began selling the drugs to make money to take care of herself and her ailing mother.  Frank (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) a local police officer who wants to  an end to the manufacturing of the drugs keeps in contact with Robin.  

Art (Jaimie Foxx) a former soldier whose daughter has been kidnapped by the makers of the drug because she was the first human to show signs of super powers and she was used as the formula in producing the drug.  Art in search of his daughter captures Robin thinking she knows the manufacturer but she doesn't. As she got to know him she began having sympathy for him because he was just a father looking for his daughter. Frank comes after them trying to save Robin but he found out she doesn't need saving. So the three of them work together to stop the drug manufacturers and to save Art's daughter.

 

There are two points I find special in this movie. First, Frank saw the crime being committed in his town and he wanted to do something about it. He didn't care even when his job  was at stake all he cared about was putting an end to the the drug.  So we should always do our part in making our society great. When we see things going wrong we should make a change.  Second, we see the role family play. Art was a father trying to find his daughter and Robin was just trying to make money to settle her mother's hospital bills.  Family  are meant to take care of each other and to be there both in the good and bad times.  Well let me stop here. I loved this movie and I highly recommend it to everyone..

Work It

 

Work it is a movie that talks about self discovery and finding out one's passion.  The main character in this movie is Quinn Ackerman (Sabrina Carpenter) who is an high school senior and her whole life she dreamed of going to Duke University like her late father. So she studies hard, has a great G.P.A , plays the Cello and volunteers at a nursing home just to build up her application.During her interview, the admissions officer tells her that her application is just like others and that Duke needs something different. When Quinn mentions her school's dance team the admissions officer gets excited and Quinn let's her believe that she was in the team and that she was going to perform at the Work It dance competition. 

Although Quinn can not dance, she begs her best friend Jasmine (Liza Koshy) who is a member of the dance tam to teach her how to dance so that she can audition for the dance team . Quinn fails the audition but she did not give up she was determined to dance at the competition if it meant getting into Duke  so since she didn't get into the schools dance team she decided to create her own dance team. Quinn starts her own dance team along with Jasmine and they recruit a group of misfits with dance potential. Quinn also gets an award winning dancer to choreograph the team for the competition. At first Quinn wanted to dance so that she can get into Duke but. Along the line she fell in love with dancing and she realized that she wasn't really passionate  about Duke university.  

      To me, the main lesson in this movie is that its never too late to discover your passion.  Quinn made her life goal Duke University and she worked so hard to be the perfect candidate for Duke university, she decicated her life to it and shut everything else out. When the opportunity came for her to just relax and dance she discovered that she was passionate about dancing.  She was able to find her passion at the last minute. If you feel you are on a career path or doing something you don't love it's never to late to change your path. We treasure happy moments the most so live your life doing what makes you happy.
